What's the story on wild rice for Passover? It's a different plant from regular domesticated rice.

Like EVERYTHING that has to do with kitnyot, Opinions Vary.

Mostly, it's counted as kitnyot.

I don't know why in 13 years of being Jewish it never occurred to me to think about wild rice for Passover, but it just occurred to me last night and I felt like I had a get-out-of-jail-free card. Oh well. I guess I'm still in jail! Quinoa it is.

Hey, kitnyot has no real halachic reasoning, so feel free to declare wild rice "not-kitnyot-for-my-family".

I'm of the opinion that the definition of kitnyot should be as restrictive as possible.

Ideally, the complete list of kitnyot would be "maize, rice, and corn syrup in Coca-Cola."
