Backflow happened. Dirty black water backed up into the bathtub and overflowed the toilet for no apparent reason--it could have been connected with the washer running, but that doesn't really help explain it since that doesn't happen every time the washer runs.
Mr. Historian managed to snake out the tub so that it will drain again, but the toilet is still AWOL. Um, I think the toilet is kind of an important aspect of the plumbing system to have working properly. If it wasn't so cold I could pretend I was in Alaska and go out in the yard, but it's Georgia. Well, I suppose in some parts of Georgia that wouldn't be so weird either.
I suppose we get to spend all our Hannamas gelt on a plumber now. Yay. I might try once more to fix the toilet myself, once Home Depot opens in the morning, but I'm not optimistic. And the spectre of the giant oak tree's roots creeping into our sewer line is looming--I know it's happened before, so it's only a matter of time before it happens again, if it isn't already happening.
Yes, being a homeowner really is worth it.
