call for papers...
Jan. 13th, 2005 04:28 pmThe AAR call for papers is out, and I have to think about whether I want to deal with presenting at any conferences this year. My first response is: meh. I've done it twice, and it's not like I have reaped any huge benefits from doing so. I guess by the time I'm in my 3rd year of my ph.d. program I ought to start getting more serious about networking, though.
I don't have anything ready right now that I can propose, and the paper I'm supposed to be writing now may be good enough to revise and present by November, if I write it (ha!) and if I can figure out how to get around the IRB hurdles. (= institutional review board, which supposedly protects human subjects from being exploited, though I can't possibly imagine how I could exploit someone by interviewing them about a menorah lighting.)
Also the AAR is in Philadelphia this year, to which my first response is, again, meh. I've never been there, but it's not first on my list or anything either. I don't think I have any friends there anymore. I'd rather get my school to pay for me to go to NY or San Diego (where it'll be in a couple of years). Meh.
